Having problems with your Toyota Tercel ?

Toyota Tercel 92. Manual Transmission. With new starter assembly just put on. Starts fine, engine runs excellent, but it still does the hard clunk like it did before I switched starter. It only does it when the engine sits for 10-15 min. (Never after a quick stop) It even drags a little longer then the one single hard clunk. What's the deal with that? Also there's a noise that follows - moderate vibration - when I engage the engine in first and second gear. It use to happen only in first gea

Hello! I suspect you have a resistive connection to the starter motor...Place a voltmeter across the positive of the battery and the positive connection on the starter motor...Since it appears to fail when hot take the reading at that time...You should read less that .5 volts...Set the meter on X1 ohm scale...Read from the negative of the battery to chassis and negative of battery to engine block...Both should read zero ohms...

I agree that the motor mount (engine mounting absorber) is at fault...there are 2 (front and rear) about $50 each ...Also there is a stiffing plate (2 bolts to engine, 1 to frame) that could be broken...Not hard to change...
