Having problems with your Nissan Cube ?

My 2009 Nissan Cube would not start (keyless). No response pushing start button - tried spare, no response, pressed "key" against start button (owner's manual said I should get a "gong") no sound, no response hitting start button. Had power to doors, lights. Tow truck called - jumped battery - no response. Towed to dealer - said ECU unit is bad - may not be under warranty if damaged during battery jump (unit was already dead). Prior to non start, a one+ second gap had developed between pus

Hi Gary

\015\012\015\012A couple of things, firstly yes the gap i the starter is relevant it \015\012suggests that there is either a bad earth, poor connection to either the\015\012 starter or altenator and / or a fuse may be faulty thats not to sday it\015\012 has blew as on occasion they can melt when a car is jumped off, \015\012especially if the car or van jumping it had a higher amp-age battery.
\015\012\015\012
\015\012\015\012Secondly regarding the ECU issue why I cannot say for sure this will \015\012work it is worth a try with the current situation your having. \015\012Disconnect the car battery charge it up if you think that it \015\012insufficient power to start the car, if you can leave the battery \015\012disconnected overnight, this will allow the ECU battery backup to drain \015\012and hopefully reset the ECU back to factory settings.
\015\012\015\012
\015\012\015\012When you reconnect the battery attach the red "positive" first then the \015\012earth "black" second. Lock the car and leave it for about 2 minutes then\015\012 open/unlock the car and try to start it.
\015\012\015\012
\015\012\015\012Let me know how you get on with this firstly then get back to me, if no \015\012joy there are a few things you can try without forking out for new \015\012parts. Also it would be up to the dealer to prove the damage occurred \015\012during the jump start, you should argue your point as a paying customer.
\015\012\015\012
\015\012\015\012Did the garage run a volt meter on the battery? if not they should have \015\012before making any diagnosis on the ECU. Relay's & fuses could be a \015\012cause as the relay may be sticking hence the slight gap in starting, in \015\012theory it would jam after the click not completing the circuit. There \015\012are 2 lots of fuses, small type that are found in the car for things \015\012like the radio, lights etc and there are larger fuses for the car's \015\012computer and main running of the larger components such as alternator \015\012& engine wiring, again the garage should have checked these already.
\015\012
\015\012Hope this helps, be careful the dealer is not trying to rob you as they \015\012often do. If I can help further please message me back, If I do not \015\012respond right away I will get back to you in the morning. as it is \015\012getting late here in the UK.
