Having problems with your Mercedes-Benz 300-Class ?

My 1989 300SEL the check engine light flashes intermittantly starting at around 70 MPH. If I accelerate it stops until I settle in at another highway speed. The car also hesitates slightly at the same time, and then picks right back up. Also have to really pump the gas to get the car to start (Check Engine List flashes a lot during this time also) once I get the car started it's fine.

The check engine light\015\012comes ON when the cars computer (the ECU) notices any kind of electrical\015\012problem in car. In some cases the check engine light comes on then turns off.\015\012In that case the exact error is not getting confirmed so this happens. But once\015\012the problem gets confirmed the engine light will remain permanently ON till the\015\012problem gets solved. In this case I suggest you to get your car scanned at\015\012autozone service center. It's absolutely free. In case in car scanning, if any error code is retrieved\015\012then you can check which part is faulty as per the error code. In case if no\015\012error code is retrieved then you have to check other possibilities like fuel pressure, the starter and battery connection.
If the fuel pressure is checked low then the fuel pump and fuel filter are to be checked and replaced. If starter to battery connection is loose then car will show such problems.Remove the battery to starter connecting terminals, clean the terminals and reconnect them to their respective connectors then check out.------As per you mentioned that car hesitates and you really have to pump the gas to get car to start,as per this ,its indicating towards low fuel pressure. The fuel pressure can be easily checked at any local car garage. But first its advisable to get car scanned at autozone service center ,This will help to confirm the codes. If no codes retrieved, you can continue other mentioned troubleshooting.--------this will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
