How to get the tension off timing belt for replacement
\015 Im trying to get the tension off the timing belt so it can be replaced can u help it on a 1996 mazda truck b2300 4 cylinder\015
Usually there is a idler that can be "unsprung" with a 1/2 drive ratcher, look for the square drive hole and turn in the direction that would relieve tension. there may also be a bolt that tensions the idler, loosen bolt. My Plymouth had a hydraulic (sort of) tensioner. It was a small piece that had a pin coming out the bottom that acted on an idler. You unbolt the piece and the tension would relax. To install, you had to chuck it in a vice and turn the vice slowly to push the pin in against a VERY heavy spring, then you put a small drill bit in a keeper hole to keep it retracted, bolt it in and pull the pin and it would expand putting tension on the idler.
