Having problems with your Lexus SC 300 ?

I have a 1999 lexus sc300. The airbags deployed, and my body shop wants to replace both seatbelts, both airbags, the diagnostic module, and possibly the clock spring. I called a lexus dealer also, and they said the diag module would not likely need replaced, and did not mention seat belts. As far as pretensioners on the seatbelts go, would I need new ones, or will the seatbelts still lock? Can diag mods be reset safely? How often do clock springs fail?

This is a very touchy issue if someone were to get into an accident and they did not replace everything they just mentioned they could be sued for millions and they would lose. NO reputable shop would do this job without replacing the pretensioners as they work with the airbags. also both airbags would have to be replaced, as well as the DERM which is the diagnostic energy reserve module. the reason they might have to replace the clockspring is because they are VERY touchy and break quite easily. they will not know that answer for sure until they get into it a little. In my professional experience I agree with everything they told you, it does not sound like they are raking you over the coals. ANYONE that would do this job WITHOUT replacing everything the body shop mentioned should NOT be in business as they are taking your and your family's life in their incapable hands. have a nice day and happy motoring!!!!
All these things are just to get you to spend money. All you actually need is the air bags replaced. As a mechanic myself, this is exactly what I would tell them to. Just have the air bags replaced.
