Having problems with your 2005 Mercury Mountaineer ?

Mountaineer shuts off

\015 My 2005 Mountaineer shut down at a red light, I could crank it back up but when I put it in drive, it would go dead again. I finally got it cranked back up, but only with limited rpms. I got it back home, and it was running on full rpms. My wife drove it this morning and it ran fine, until she was returning home it quit on her again. It cranked up and she drove it home. The message center said that it was in failsafe mode. Is it the electronic throttle control, or do I need to start at the fuel filter and go from there. It will be carried to my mechanic on monday. Just curious.Thank you,Michael Raney\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 19-03-2018

Answers :

It might be a blockage in your fuel lines, this will sometimes make your car go into failsafe, because it knows there is gas in the car but a limited amount reaches the carbarettor, this is also why it will sometimes stop while trying to "rapidly" accelarate ( from a red light )
