Having problems with your 2001 Dodge Durango ?

Dodge Durango, 2001, 4.7l 'slipping' transmission

\015 Vehicle is in mint condition with very low mileage- 30K miles. After vehicle sits for ~ week or so not being used transmission 'SLIPS' as a standard transmission might if it had a very worn cluthch plate. However, if allowed to idle for 12 ~16+ minutes clutch will operate properly. It seems like transmission oil leaks from the upper part of the transmission to the lower holding area when not operated every several days. Correction is noted after needed idle time. If driven several times a week problem is not noted.\015\012 I have had the dealer change the filter, transmission oil, run a computer check, reload (update) computer program, and provide a clean bill of health...........that does not correct the problelm.\015\012\015\012Along with understanding the problem and identifying the needed correction I would like to know: 1) if this is a mfg. flaw?, 2) Is there a best gear to idle the engine to reduce time to 'pump' fluid around to correct the problem, 3) possible checks and evaluations?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 19-03-2018

Answers :

It sounds like your torque converter is draining when it sits. Would need to replace the torque converter if this is the case.
