Hi from uk have done this lots of times when renewing cambelts etc and found that if you turn engine to TDC No1 firing and check to see if hole on cam cog is facing up/top in line with V cut mark on cyl head behind you can remove top cover to check ? if after you have removed under arch cover to access crank pully bolt ? i have/do use an impact gun with socket+extension on pully bolt these impact guns are 12 volt and are usually used on wheel nuts power supply from either battery or cig lighter socket the gun actually spins fast then suddenly impacts bolts or nuts easily cost in uk £25 approx and can be money well invested for variety of jobs also using this for crank bolt no need for special locking tools just undo bolt on pully then reckeck t/marks are aligned b4 stripdown hope this helps ? you may know somebody who got one for christmas ???
