There is a special tool that you will need to\015\012remove the fan clutch from the water pump. Basically what this tool\015\012does is uses the four bolts that you removed to hold the pulley so that\015\012you can unthread that fan clutch assembly. Here is an illustration of\015\012these items as they come apart.


You\015\012should be able to check with your local auto part stores to see if they\015\012possibly rent a fan clutch removal tool out. I know autozone does rent\015\012this type of tool.

4.3L, 5.0L and 5.7L Engines (clic for images zoom)
  1. \015\012Disconnect the negative battery cable.\015\012
  2. \015\012
  3. \015\012Remove the radiator fan shroud.\015\012
  4. \015\012
  5. \015\012Remove the drive belt, if necessary.\015\012
  6. \015\012
  7. \015\012Remove the four fan clutch-to-water pump pulley nuts and lift out the fan/clutch assembly.\015\012

  1. \015\012Remove the fan clutch bolts and separate the fan from the clutch.\015\012
\015\012\015\012To install:
  1. \015\012Install the fan on the fan clutch and tighten the bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).\015\012
  2. \015\012
  3. \015\012Position the fan/clutch assembly on the water pump pulley. Tighten the nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).\015\012

  5. \015\012Install the fan shroud.\015\012
  6. \015\012
  7. \015\012Connect the battery cable.\015\012
