Having problems with your 1997 Lincoln Continental ?

1996 Lincoln Continental engine shuts off

\015 I have a 1996 Lincoln Continental. My problem is the engine shuts off, usually when going over bumps or making a hard turn. The car has been back to the mechanic many times and he cannot pin point the problem. He said he changed some relay thinking that might be the cause. The problem is difficult to reproduce, doesn't always happen. The 'Service Engine Soon' light is constantly on in the dashboard but the mechanic said this wouldn't cause the problem I am having. Something to do with the anti air pollution control. The problem sounds to me like a loose wire/bad connection somewhere, but this is just a guess. I am at my wits end and hope you can provide an answer.\015\012Thank you.\015\012Art\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 19-03-2018

Answers :

Replace inertia switch in trunk first. It is designed to shut off fuel pump in an accident. It may be too sensitive.
\015\012Other possibility is the fuel pump relay near the engine computer.
\015\012Last is computer power relay since it powers the computer, and the computer operates the fuel pump relay.
\015\012report back please.
