Having problems with your 1996 Volkswagen Jetta ?

My 1996 jetta 2.0 4cyl, won't start when pressing down clutch. I have to keep turning key, with some startup at times, by shifting gear shift. Can you help?

Answers :

If it starts easy in neutral, then the clutch is "dragging" meaning it is slightly engaged. You can adjust the clutch cable at the gearbox end by holding the outer cable with a pair of pliers or grips, careful not to crimp the cable as you could damage it, and turning the serated plastic cap to tighten the cable. If this doesn't work then either the cable is already too stretched, or the clutch bearing is faulty and needs replacing.
That is assuming he has an adjustable clutch cable.

it could also be the ignition switch. it may have nothing to do with the clutch and is just very picky about when it decides to start.
