Having problems with your 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee ?

Trunk door won't open

\015 The lock unlocks and you can pull up on the handle but lock will not release. You can hear it clicking when pulling up. Can I remove the insert panel on the outside where the lisence plate it to access the mechanism? Cannot access from the inside as the door needs to be open to take of the interior panel.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 12-03-2018

With those, I have generally destroyed the interior panel and replaced it with a junkyard part. But, though I don't believe that you can remove the part on the outside, I like your idea...I'd go in with a 4'" hole saw behind the plate, then do some bondo work after its fixed...being behind the plate, even a sloppy job would remain unseen!!! If you do that, just be careful to stop the drill before it fully punches through, so you don't catch it on any linkage or wires in there.
good luck!!!
