Having problems with your 1995 Honda Civic ?

1995 civic My civic bogged down after going up a hill. It cut off and will not start now. It trys to turn over, but does not catch. You can smell gas out the exhaust, so its not the fuel line or filter? any thoughts. automatic 161k miles

There is a possibility that your timing belt has a couple of teeth missing now. When was the last time the timing belt was replaced? The reason for the fuel smell is the engine is trying to fire at the wrong time. It's trying to fire when the exhaust valve is actually opening. Replacing the belt isn't a bad job.
