I am talking about the 6 cyl engine in this reply if yours is an 8 cyl it will be close but I do not have visual knowledge on it.
The housing is on the front of the engine at the top, 2 hoses and one sensor are mounted into it.
Remove the sensor first so you dont break it, they cost you know. Lay it somewhere else. then remove the two hoses by removing the clamps. There will be two bolts to take out and then just tap on the housing, use a rubber hammer or a piece of wood against it.
You will see the thermostat nestled inside there when the part pops off.
# things to be ready for.
1..you are going to get coolant on some stuff, wipe up any that is on the ground as animals like it as well as kids, it is poison to them.
2..if this housing is cracked, how did it get cracked, it is a hard thing to do, figure that out while you are working on it, don't want it to happen again I would think.
3..have all the parts you need to put it back together, I would go ahead and replace the thermostat while you are there too, no sense putting an old part back and they are not expensive.

You will need a bit of coolant to replace what you lose in the process, and you will need a little rtv sealant to rub on the gasket, don't overtighten the bolts when you put them back in, that may be what caused it to crack in the first place, just 'very snug' if you have a torque wrench the book says 16 foot pounds, that is kind of just before you really have to push a wrench hard.
Good luck and wear safety glasses till at least you are done splashing coolant around.
Re-attach the hoses, put back in the sensor, fill the radiator back to the top and turn it on, check for leaks and proper guage reading from the sensor..
Good luck .
