Having problems with your 1989 Toyota Pickup SR5 ?
My insrument panel lights do not work the ingine light, battery, seat belt and all the lights on the bottome work but the speedodometer, rpms or gas and oil lights do not work. they worked when i first got the truck months ago but after putting in a custom cd player they dont work. i changed fuses and bulbs because some were blown but still nothing
Seems that you wired the new head unit / cd player incorrectly. All the lights that you report as not working, are controlled by the dimmer rheostat on the dashboard. This dimmer controls lights on the OEM player as well, but almost no replacement units have this feature, or a cable to hook it. What you should do is unplug the CD connector, replace broken fuses, and see if dashboard lights return to life. If this is the case, you will have to test all the wires that hook into the CD, and see which corresponds to the dimmer controller. Set the dimmer to about half way, and test all cables for voltage. The dimmer cable should read well below 12 volts. and two other cables will show full voltage: 1) the accessory cable to power the unit, usually red and 2) the continuous power cable to keep memory alive, usually yellow. When you find the dimmer cable, cut the cable, and cover it well with tape.
Your headlight switch feeds power to the dash light dimmer. These go bad, and you can bypass it to test it out. Basically it has two wires, that one feeds into, and the other out. Join them together and you bypass the dimmer.
