Having problems with your Toyota Tercel ?

Toyota Tercel 92. Manual Transmission. With new starter assembly just put on. Starts fine, engine runs excellent, but it still does the hard clunk like it did before I switched starter. It only does it when the engine sits for 10-15 min. (Never after a quick stop) It even drags a little longer then the one single hard clunk. What's the deal with that? Also there's a noise that follows - moderate vibration - when I engage the engine in first and second gear. It use to happen only in first gea

Hello! I suspect you have a resistive connection to the starter motor...Place a voltmeter across the positive of the battery and the positive connection on the starter motor...Since it appears to fail when hot take the reading at that time...You should read less that .5 volts...Set the meter on X1 ohm scale...Read from the negative of the battery to chassis and negative of battery to engine block...Both should read zero ohms...

I agree that the motor mount (engine mounting absorber) is at fault...there are 2 (front and rear) about $50 each ...Also there is a stiffing plate (2 bolts to engine, 1 to frame) that could be broken...Not hard to change...

Check to make sure both bolts that hold the starter are tight. For now, you may need to add some metal shims to give the starter some added clearance so it does not hit the flywheel. Another thing that might be going on is your flywheel ... Toyota Tercel

I have a Toyota tercel 92 with 120 000 miles on a rebuilt engine (225 000 miles total). When I turn the key, not every single time but most of the time, I hear a single, hard clunk. Also when I engaged the engine in first gear the speedometer needle doesn't move until the engine reaches 5-10 mph. This is accompanied with a noise that sounds like gear slipping. I was told that the starter assembly is the problem and to change it for a rebuilt one. Will a rebuilt starter be reliable? Is this a

I started my car w/o any hint of a problem this morning. Stopped for about 10 min. and attempted to start again. Just a "click" but starter not engaging. The battery tested at 12.5 before running ( I even got it jumped just in case...) but it wouldn't start again. I took the starter out and had it tested. Runs just fine. Verified all cables - batterie and starter - and all seemed fines. Now, just recently, I have had a hard time keeping the engine running smooth in the mornings. It's kind of bug

The engine has been starting and running fine, but suddenly yesterday, after a heavy rain overnight, I found it would only run 10 seconds or less, then die. Apparently coincidentally, the starter motor then came loose (a stripped thread on a mounting bolt, with the ground lead) so I replaced the starter motor. I got a new computer just 4 or 5 years ago, so that should be alright. It seems obvious it is not getting fuel (I can hardly get it to even start now). I am not familiar with electroni
