Having problems with your Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera ?

A mechanic said that the interior air filter (a foam pad) which is in the dashboard is dirty and clogged. His repair would cost $600-$700. Symptoms: greasy film on inside of windshield, smelly air, poor heater and AC air circulation. I'm planning a 2000 mile trip in July and have some time to try to fix this.

Thank you for contacting fixya.com.

The heater core regulates the temperature inside your car.

Sounds like it's a case of bad heater core. Check the coolant level and monitor if you are losing coolant.

It is suggested to replace the heater core.

A/C fans We own an 2007 Prius with 34,000 miles. On a recent road trip, we noticed that the center fans on the dashboard, plus the fan(s) underneath the dash for the floorboards, were no longer blowing air. The fans on the outside edges of the dashboard and just below the windshield work fine. And yes, all the ports for the fans are in the open position. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions as to what the problem could be? Thank you.

W221 KFU. Soppose this is small potatoes to you but I am on a low wage £8,000 per annum. My husband has been made redundant and the heater matrix broke in the Summer. The car cost £600 last year and sailed through an MOT. It would take two days in a garage to mend. I guess I'm looking at £600 . When turned to defrost, no air comes out of vents to windshield. Air only comes out of vents in dash and floor. I have taken apart compartment behind glovebox and it appears that a glued lever has given way that controls air directions. I have played with it but can not get air to direct out of the top vents onto the windshield. How do I get it reglued and divert the air onto the windshield if that is what is needed. The heater does not work on defrost but works on al other modes.

My heater works marginally and more often than not blows no warm air. The coolant level is OK and the engine temperature seems normal. Long before this happened the heater switch had a problem in that it only blew out of the front vents no matter what position it was set. As a example the windshield heat setting would still cause air from the vents and not to the windshield. Not sure that is relevant but thought I'd mention it. Thanks

I would flush the coolant system first with a good flush, because alot of times the heater core will get partially clogged causing this problem.Or you may want to replace the heater core. ... 1999 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

I have a 2008 Chev Impala LT. As long as the car is in a forward motion, the heater works fine. However, as soon as the forward motion is stopped, the heater immediately starts blowing cold air and will not blow warm air until the car is in forward motion again. Also, the engine operating temperature can be up to normal and the car still has to be driven at least six miles before warm air starts coming out of the heater vents. Norris

I have a really strange problem with my Nissan 2006 Pathfinder. The heater will not heat up and blow out hot air as long as the vehicle is sitting idling. When I want to defrost the windshield on frosty mornings, it will not heat up even though the temperature gauge is showing it is warm. I have a 2001 9-5 SE V6 with about 88.5K miles. The interior fan air only blows out of the face/dash vents no matter what position (feet, windshield, or face) the indicator shows. Fan speed and temp work fine, as well as other functions like the A/C, rear-defroster, etc. on the module. With winter now upon us, I need to be able to blow hot air onto the windshield. I took my 2002 kia on a 1000 mile trip. The engine got hot so I turned off the air conditioning and it cooled to normal operating temperatures. I drove it with no problems except not being able to run the air conditioner for approximately 300 miles. Then the engine would overheat if I was not running 60 mph. The problem became steadily worse so that by the time I was returning home the car had no power and the engine would run hot going up hills.
