Having problems with your Hyundai Motor 2004 Sonata ?

2004 hyundai sonata timing belt, maintenance, etc

\015 I've hit my 60,000 mile mark for my hyundai sonata 2004. I know I need to change my timing belt, and tensioners. What else do I need to change and normally how much would it cost? I know there's no exact estimate, but a ballpark would be good. Thanks!\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 11-12-2017

1.5L And 1.6L Engines

    \015\012
  1. \015\012Remove all necessary components for access to the timing belt cover, then remove the cover.\015\012
  2. \015\012
  3. \015\012Rotate the crankshaft clockwise and align the timing marks so No.\015\0121 piston will be at Top Dead Center (TDC) of the compression stroke.\015\012
  4. \015\012
  5. \015\012Loosen the tensioning bolt and the pivot bolt on the timing belt\015\012tensioner. Move the tensioner as far as it will go toward the water\015\012pump. Tighten the adjusting bolt.\015\012
  6. \015\012
  7. \015\012Mark the timing belt with an arrow showing direction of rotation.\015\012
  8. \015\012
  9. \015\012Remove the timing belt.\015\012
  10. \015\012
  11. \015\012If defective, remove the timing belt tensioner.\015\012

\015\012\015\012\015\012
    \015\012
  1. \015\012Align the timing marks of the camshaft sprocket and check that the crankshaft timing marks are still in alignment.\015\012
  2. \015\012
  3. \015\012If removed, install the timing belt tensioner, spring and spacer\015\012with the bottom end of the spring free. Tighten the adjusting bolt\015\012slightly with the tensioner moved as far as possible away from the\015\012water pump.\015\012
  4. \015\012
  5. \015\012Install the free end of the spring into the locating tang on the front case.\015\012
  6. \015\012
  7. \015\012Position the timing belt over the crankshaft sprocket, then over\015\012the camshaft sprocket. Slip the back of the belt over the tensioner\015\012wheel.\015\012
  8. \015\012
  9. \015\012Turn the camshaft sprocket in the opposite of its normal\015\012direction of rotation until the straight side of the belt is tight and\015\012be sure the timing marks align.\015\012
\015\012\015\012NOTE\015\012\015\012If the timing marks are not properly aligned, shift the belt 1\015\012tooth at a time in the appropriate direction until they are aligned.\015\012\015\012\015\012
    \015\012
  10. \015\012
  11. \015\012Loosen the tensioner mounting bolts so the tensioner works,\015\012without the interference of any friction, under spring pressure. Be\015\012sure the belt follows the curve of the camshaft pulley so the teeth are\015\012engaged all the way around. Correct the path of the belt, if necessary.\015\012
  12. \015\012
  13. \015\012Tighten the tensioner adjusting bolt, then the tensioner pivot bolt to 15-18 ft. lbs. (20-26 Nm).\015\012
\015\012\015\012NOTE\015\012\015\012Bolts must be tightened in the stated order or tension won't be correct.\015\012\015\012\015\012
    \015\012
  14. \015\012
  15. \015\012Turn the crankshaft 1 turn clockwise until timing marks again align to seat the belt.\015\012
  16. \015\012
  17. \015\012Loosen both tensioner attaching bolts and let the tensioner position itself under spring tension. Retighten the bolts.\015\012
  18. \015\012
  19. \015\012 Check belt tension by putting a finger on the water pump side of\015\012the tensioner wheel and pull the belt toward the water pump. The belt\015\012should move toward the pump until the teeth are approximately 1\015\012 /\015\012 2\015\012 of the way across the head of the tensioner adjusting bolt. Re-tension the belt, if necessary.\015\012 \015\012
  20. \015\012
  21. \015\012Install the timing belt covers and all other related components.\015\012
  22. \015\012
