Having problems with your Ford Excursion ?

The dashboard parking brake light comes on while driving and I have checked to make sure the brake has been fully released. What could be the problem?? It doesn't stay on, it comes on and off.

Look at fluid level, some systems invoke the parking light for low fluid. I presume to confuse you. I think the thinking works like this: When you have full new brakes and full M/C by the time the M/C fluid gets consumes by prake pad consumption, the light goes off. If you replaced the front pads, the fluid gets pushed back into the M/C resovoir, and the light goes out. Bet that you are pretty close to needing pads, presuming no leaks or other issues.
The parking brake warning light is also used to warn of a fault in the normal braking system such as unequal pressures in the dual / split brake sections or low brake fluid level in the Master Cylinder reservior. It sounds like, from your description, that it could be the latter fault as the fluid sloshes around while driving. Check the level of fluid and top up if necessary. When the fluid has dropped to the point of setting off the warning light, it usually means that the brake disc pads are getting close to being worn down, so it would pay to check them also and replace if close to being at minimum thickness (around 2 mm).
