Having problems with your Ford Contour ?

I had 1998 ford contour with 2.0l dohc my check engine lite is onhad dtc p1380 and p1382 engine runs rouhg with vct selenoide connected when i .disconected runs fine can you help me on this one please

Hi.

P1382 is effectively pointing at a bad VCT solenoid. You need to lift valve cover and remove the belt to reach and replace the solenoid.Belt and cam shaft must come out. The belt must be removed and refitted using a special Ford tool.

The solenoid is part 32 in the diagram below :

Here timing belt procedure. The cams must be held in place using a special tool:

  • remove the valve cover

  • Put the belt on the sprockets
  • \015\012
  • Tighten the belt tensioner
  • \015\012
  • Loosen sprockets
  • \015\012
  • Set the cam tool in place as shown in picture:.

  • Line Up the timing mark (cranking-See picture):

  • Tighten the sprokets.

  • Take off the cam tool.
  • \015\012
  • Reassemble the cover.

Sounds like the VCT sensor and the sprocket is bad and will need to be replaced. Check the ff:

VCT hollow oil feed bolt being plugged with debris
\015\012A damaged Variable Camshaft tone ring
\015\012Incorrect base engine timing
\015\012On automatic transmission vehicles only, the flex-plate may be broken

\015\012Mis-machined Cylinder Head
