Rear brakes problem started with losing brake fluid (lots) fixed that....cylinder was bad. bought new one and replaced it. after bleeding brakes, test drove it less than 3 miles....no brakes....rubber on cylinder pushed out lost fluid. replaced cylinder again and replaced drum (poss wear)...bled brakes again....now with brakes pressed, I can turn rear tire by hand....any solutions?

I have a 96 geo prizm. I have replaced the front and back brakes. I have bled the brakes and the foot pedal is firm for about the first4 days. After the 4 days the brake pedal gets really soft and you have to push it almost to the floor for the brakes to engage. I tried bleeding the brakes again and that fixed the problem, but it is now back to being soft. Do I have a problem with my master cylinder or is there something that I am missing?

It sounds like master cyl. is drawing in air causing prob. also another test would bee too bleed out and get pedal back, now step on pedal and hold firmly and see if pedal creeps near floor indicating innternal leaking in master cyl. also have some o ... 1996 Geo Prizm

Had problems with ABS computer light - now cannot get a brake pedal. Bled master cylinder on the bench and then brakes were good until ABS activated during tersting and pedal went to floor after a couple of emergency stops. Do I have air in the system or a faulty ABS unit or needs a new master cylinder?

If pedal is going all the way down then either there is air in the system which will need bleeding or else you have a faulty master cylinder. It has nothing to do with the computer as it will pick up fault and display only..nothing else does it do her ... 2000 Alfa Romeo 145

Brake problems After replacing line to rear left, brakes wouldn't stay pumped up after bleeding. Replaced master cylinder, bled and still won't stay pumped up. Emergency brakes works but regular brakes won't lock up rear wheels. Pedal pumps up until you start car. Do we need to bleed ABS unit too?

1977 vette. I had the front and rear suspension out for rebuild which included the brake system. Since putting it back into service I keep loosing the brake pedal, the travel kssps getting longer and longer.I have had the system bled professionaly and the problem keeps returning.I have not noticed any leaks in the system and the master cylinder has been replaced twice with reman units to no avail. Could it be the proportioning valve? Hard to drive when the brakes do not work. Any help will be

I would certainly try the proportioning valve. It's very rare, but they can go bad. I had a Pontiac Catalina, that did the samething, I replaced the proportioning valve and the brakes worked like new. The GM comination valve acts as a metering valve, ... 1972 Chevrolet Corvette

I have a clean 4x4 v6 pickup. It had the orig. brake master cylinder and obviously never had the brakes bled. It started using brake fluid like a bottle every 2 weeks. No caliper or wheel cylinder was wet. Finally a seal failed and brake fluid started to pour into the booster and and out the back of the MC. I bought a new MC and bench bled it and installed it. I re-bled it it again to get a good pedal. I assumed it fixed the fluid loss....Wrong, now it is back to using a small bottle eve

Suggest you "look" for fluid loss issue. fluid has to go somewhere right? either a bad rear wheel cylinder.which inside of rear tires will be wet with brake fluid..either passenger side or drivers side. or a bad brake caliper on the front.which will ... 1990 Toyota Pickup

1999 Ford E350 van problem: brake pedal is soft; have replaced master cylinder, rear wheel cylinders, rear brake shoes and drums, front calipers, rotors and discs; have bled master cylinder before installation and bled all wheel cylinders as well; have also replaced rear anti-lock system; the rear anti-lock system light on the dash remains on; the pedal gets hard when bleeding the brakes, however, does not stay hard after bleeding. Does the anti-lock system need to be bled as well? If so, how?

Good question, on the antilock system is a bleader too and bleade it the same way you bleade the caliper. After all is done adjust the rear brakes, they should have a drag to them. ... 2007 Ford E-350 Super Duty Length XLT

Hi,my 1992 dodge dakota 4x4 extended cab with a 318 engine is giving me problems!! The brake light and anti lock lights are both on,brakes were working but I found a leak in the rear brake line. I have heard a solution to my problem of 2nd gear kicking hard every up shift (1st to 2nd). I have heard that disconecting the batery and using all acceseries and pumping brakes, using any stored evergy, letting it sit for a while discarging all the way "could" help. Has anybody heard of such a thing I think is more of a mechanical problem not a electrical???? Has this every worked for anybody.

Have the 300c (2006). Brake light warning comes on spontaneously and when accelerating and decellerating, turning corner. Not at all times but quite frequenly. Seems that the level sensoring unit for the brake fluid is defective? Have had it to the dealer several times. They claimed they replaced the "switch" but didn't cure the problem. Have a suspicion it's an inherent engineering problem with the master cylinder design and they don't want to replace the whole expensive unit or.... the replace

Changed brake pads and used a c-clamp to retract the piston in the caliper, never bled the brakes and my wife was driving the van 2 weeks later, applied the brakes and the peddle went right to the floor, Tomorrow I'm cleaning out the whole system and replacing all brake fluid with new dot 3 and bleed the brakes ! Am I doing the right thing? I think the wrong fluid was used to top off the master cylinder .

I would check the fluid level as well as the brake lines, if the lines are good and the fluid is low then I would top off the fluid and see where it is leaking from, maybe the master or booster. Hope this helps Tim ... Chevrolet Uplander LS

Spongy brakes changed master cylinder, new brakes, rotors and calipers and wheel cylinders and still have spongy brakes. Bled at least 6 times, still spongy. Rechecked all fittings. Original problem was a driver side caliper was sticking and with no brake pad left and the rotor was bad. Passenger side also had uneven wear on the pads. Consiquently changed everything on both sides. The only thing not done is the brake booster. Any other suggestions.

I have A 2000 Ford F 150 4x4 with 5.4 liter engine. Under my brake master cylinder is a square box with a small motor. The brake lines from master cylinder go into this box and other lines come out to run to the front and back brakes . The problem I have is that after I turn off the truck, the motor continues to run.
