Having problems with your Chevrolet 1500 ?

No power after changing gas fuel pump for 91 chev

\015 I have a 91 chevy silverado 1500. I changed the fuel pump on it and after it had no electrical, not even lights. Nothing, Checked all the fuses and they were all good. I found that the negative to the engine needed to be reajusted and started for a minute then quit. Negative cable became so hot it almost melted. I changed the negative cable on the battery and regrounded it to another spot on the block, I checked all inline fuse links. Grounding strap to the engine. Changed the batteries. New connections on the batterys now no matter what I do I have a hot positive and a hot negative. Help me please.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 11-12-2017

Answers :

Check starer cable make shur that not grounded to exhaust
\015\012also make shur that there is a short ground wire from the neg connection at the batt to the body
\015\012 there should not be poer at the ground
\015\012start pulling fuses to find your circuit that is causing the short
\015\012 that should help you isolate the area that has the draw or short
You have a short to ground. What that means is,you have a power wire...............that is grounding on the vehicle somewhere,or possibly back in the fuel pump. The fuel pump theoretically could be shorted internally causing the problem. It also could be a wire or wires back where you were working possibly got pinched.Disconnect negative battery terminal until problem is solved.
