I have a 02 Avalanche. It seems the 4wd drive does not engage. I have checked the transfer case actuator and the front diif actuator. They are operating normally. I have raised the left side of the truck so the wheels will be free rolling when in neutral. Then I rotated the front tire to see if the drive shafts where turning normally. I then engaged the 4high which activated the actuators. The front and rear axles were locked together. This should should show that the transfer case is working an

I have a 2006 silverado and I installed an engine and wiring harness out of a 2003 silverado, along with a new transmission and transfer case. The cruise control, and 4wd do not work now. I just switched out the transfer case (NP 241 C) and It still wont go into 4wd. The vacum line to the transfer case is capped off and always has been. the only thing left is the transfer case switch or the actuator. Can I remove the acctuator fron the diferential and check to see if its working ok or does it ground to the diferential?

Just replace the actuator in the front differential, they commonly go bad, I hope you needed the transfer case anyway. ... 1989 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

I have a 2001 GMC Sierra Pickup that has electronic 4WD that will not engage. If you press the buttons to enter from 2HI to 4HI, 4LO, Etc. the choice of the button changes (lights up) but the truck does not have 4WD engaging or working? I have checked fuses, and they are fine. Could it most likely be the actuator? I am not a mechanic, would it be the transfer case actuator or the front axle actuator? Thanks!

My 01 Trooper had problems with the TOD starting last winter. When the switch on the dash is engaged the TOD indicator flashes continually at 4hz but the check lite does not come on. I have vacuum at the actuator but no way to measure it. I locked the actuator in the 4wd position using a 10mm bolt as described in one of the 4wd forums. I have manual hubs installed also. My problem now is that the transfer case is apparently turning in the 2wd mode. The TOD indicator blinks no matter what 4wd mod

We have a 1998 Trooper that had the same problem. The fix was an electronic switch for the 4WD - a vacuum sensor - on the front axle that just plugs in. You can see it - if you look under the car from the front, it's mounted in the middle of the fr ... 1998 Isuzu Trooper

Sure sounds like the vacuum switch is not working properly. You have done exactly what I would have done, start with the actuator(most common problem) and go from there. If your not getting the vacuum , then most likely the vacuum switch is your prob ... 1997 GMC Sonoma

How do I definitively tell if my 2000 Ford Explorer is stuck in 4 wheel drive? This truck has Control Trac automatic transfer case with 4L V6 OHV eng., NOT AWD. No 4WD indicator lights on dash. No one seems to knows this. I paid a Ford dealer to diagnose it, and they told me the Transfer Case Shift Motor was bad, so I changed it. I am now about 90% sure that this could not have been the problem; motor only controls Hi/Lo range. Any information would be appreciated.

Try jacking up both ends. Start the engine and watch the wheels spin at idle speed. If they all turn at the same rate, you're in 4WD.The other way may be more fun. Have somebody watch while you drive through a mud hole. If both wheels sli ... 1999 Ford Ranger SuperCab

My 1999 Tahoe (odo reading 137,400 miles) won't go into 4 wheel drive. A couple of days ago the "Check 4WD" light came on for a while and then went off. I planned, but haven't done so yet, to get all the fluid levels checked this weekend. But now I see the red "Neutral" light is lit and I can't engage 4 wheel drive. If there is a low fluid level sensor, can low transfer case or front diff lube cause this? Also, the problem may be a blown ATC fuse for the transfer case, but my owner's manual does

I have a two pin plug hanging adjacent to the transfer case on my 1992 Ford Explorer 4WD. It is grouped within the harness which goes to the transfer case. The 4WD operates as advertised. Any idea where it should terminate? I don't see a recepticle.

1990 ford f150 won't shift into overdrive and has constant high whining sound while in motion. Problem came on suddenly 2 days ago.
