New toro mulcher used 5 times 4 months old siezed up took it back was told it only had a little oil in so it was my fault and i would have to buy new engine for it. Should it not have a cut off saft

\015 IT ONLY HAD A LITTLE OIL IN - HAD HAYTER FOR 16 YEARS THAT DID NOT GET THROUGH OIL QUICKLY. I AM TOLD BECAUSE IT HAD BELOW THE LEVEL OF OIL IN IT, I HAD DONE THE ENGINE IN AND I NEED TO PAY FOR A NEW ENGINE . Answers :

Most such 'small engine' designs do NOT have 'low oil safety switches'.
Neither do most autos.
Owner / operator is ALWAYS responsible for maintenance.
Even IF it was sold with 'low oil',
its still owner/user's responsibility to provide needed accessories.
Such as oil.
