It all depends on the type of vehicle it is.If you know how to "read" your transmission dipstick it has an area towards the bottom of it that has a crosshatch area that may have some small holes punched in it.. At the bottom of the area is a low reading. At the top of the crosshatch area is the full mark.Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to warm up. 3-5 minutes sould be good. Add transmission fluid until the oil level on the dipstick reaches the full mark on your stick. Then step on the brake and put the vehicle in drive and just hold it there for 10 seconds. Then put it back in park, then put it in reverse and hold it for 10 seconds then back to park. Check your fluid level on your stick to see if it still reades full.If not repeat this procedure until your dipstick reaches the "full" mark on the stick and stays there. Try not to overfill it if you can.The stick should tell you what kind of transmission fluid to use. If you still not sure or just don't know, check with your local auto parts store. Hope this helps.
