Owner's manual for my father's 2005 Chrysler Town & Country van with 3.3L engine says use 5W-30 motor oil. The oil fill cap says use 5W-20 motor oil. Which oil should be used? My father now lives in the Houston area after living in Wyoming. The Chryler dealership in Wyoming used 5W-20 oil at each oil change.

I would use the 5W30 in the Houston area because of the summer heat extremes. This oil will stay thicker at increased temperature & will withstand heat extremes better than 5W20 oil. Hope this helps. Good motoring! ... 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Oil light flashing on intermittently when at temperature and only at idle. Car 2008 Mitsubishi van Have had vehicle into Mitsubishi Agent and 2nd mechanic who all say vehicle in very good condition (55,000 kms) Have had oil changed, sensor changed, oil pump tested, motor flushed all to no avail. Engine not burning any oil. Have filled oil to above oil level - no difference. Using 10W 40 oil. Can we use 10W 50 without damaging motor? What else could it be?

Well technically you should be using a 10W-30 with a vehicle like that unless it calls for a heavier grade. If the oil level is good (don't overfill it otherwise it can cause the light to go off) check the oil pressure switch and the oil sender unit. ... Mitsubishi Cargo

I have a real bad oil leak. I am unsure where the leak is but after doing some research an idea that was thrown out there was the distributor o-ring seal. Could that possible be the problem? It was also put out there that using synthetic motor oil after using conventional oil most of the engine life could also cause it to leak. Is that true or not. Any help that you could provide would be appreciated. Thank you.

My 2004 Buick Park Avenue has 52000 miles on it. I have been using 10W 30 motor oil per spec since the beginning, It has started using about one quart of oil every 2000 miles. Manual does not recommend a higher viscosity. Would 10W 40 weight hurt the engine? If so, is there a brand of 10W 30 that you could recommend that might reduce oil consumption?

You dont wont to use synthetic oil, because it is alot thinner than your conventional oil... It lasts longer, but not good for knocks or when you have oil leaks...However if you have more than 100k, you should be running either 10w40 or 20/50 motor o ... 2005 Ford Expedition
