Without my head under the bonnet its a difficult thing to advise as the newer the motor the more dependent it is on electronics but i would suggest checking all the vacumn pipes around the inlet manifold area then if they appear ok try cleaning the mass air flow sensor and then if still phasing try the stepper motor ,problem is a lot of these newer vehicles use advanced electronics now although most mechanics can tell you what the electronics are controlling they cannot know or be able to reset anything without the dealer ability to connect to the vehicle to the internet for diagnostics which is the latest way of creating more work for the dealers ,This problem could be associated with the power steering electronics whereby the road speed of the vehicle and engine RPM are all computed as one entity and even a spike in the voltage like a low battery can damage the chips in the computers and so its a dealer job to diagnose and reset the NEW units as they will not play around with the old ones ,no money in that is their now think logically .
