Having problems with your 2004 Chevrolet Impala ?

I have a 2004 Impala that transmission jerks into gears periodically when doing a bit of stopping and starting off. Have talked to other Impala owners, and some have had tranny problems also. It just happens off and on, you take it home and park it, drive it later, it's fine. Then when you least expect it,say going block to block, it jerks into each gear, hard. Anybody else have similar problems, or do I have a defective Impala too??? Thanx for any help you can give me Mary

This is common problems to the transmission when the fluid is getting to dirty and the transmission fluid and filter needs to be replaced. The transmission fluid and filter should be replaced every 45,000 miles to ensure there is no dirt causing the shift servos from binding. The other thing to is that when the transmission fluid get's to dirty, the fluid gets thicker. It retains fluid retention which can cause conflicts in the transmission sensors. What your experiencing is, your transmission is not shifting back to first gear and sticking in to 2nd gear. When you get on the gas peddle, the transmission sensors realize that it needs to be in 1st gear, so as the engine's RPM goes up and the transmission drops back to 1st, you get the jerking condition which will in turn cause you a $2,300.00 transmission replacement. For now when starting off from a stop, let the engine creep forward on it's own first to ensure that the transmission has shifted in to 1st gear. Then get on the gas peddle lightly till you have the transmission serviced. $100.00 transmission service is better then $2,300.00 transmission replacement. Good luck and do not have a transmission fluid flush, just filter and fluid replacement.
Harsh 1st to 2nd shift after car has been driven 10 to 20 miles is caused by the trans computer seeing a slip that it cant control the computer will set code 1811 max adapt long shift. the engine light my not come on but codes can be seen on a good scan tool.when the trans cools it will work properly agian.if the car has low miles or trans pan clean epc soleniod may fixit.I think the trans has to much 2nd clutch endplay from the factory when rebuilding ad extra steal to pack and install valvebody kit this makes it harder to throw 1811 .weak epc also can cause shutter when taking off a little hard. all gm cars with 4t65e
