Check engine light came on - 2003 Toyota Highlander

Answers :

This is usually triggered by an emissions problem detected by the cars computer, but can be something else. You need to check what engine codes are stored in the cars computer to figure out what is wrong. Although the Toyota may run fine, continuing to drive it w/out fixing the problem could result in other problems, so have it checked soon. Most parts stores offer free check engine light code retrieval. They will plug a hand held scan tool into the cars diagnostic port, and 'read' any codes stored on the cars computer. They will tell you the code #(s), and suggest ways to fix the problem. If you have further questions at that time, post them and the code #'s at this site. Good luck
