2004 Lincoln LS 3.9L At first the gauge would do the the red and then drop back down as if nothing ever happened and showed no signs of overheating. I used a temp gun to test the pipe at the t-stat and temp was normal. Now it is showing signs of overheating and it seems to be low on coolant every time I check it. No visible signs of a leak. I am thinking that the t-stat is sticking and boiling enough coolant out that by the time I get home there is no more leaking to be seen. Replace t-stat
