Having problems with your 2003 Chevrolet Suburban ?

Will not go into 4th gear or uphill

\015 My suburban drives fine on flat land and from 1 to 3rd gear. It is an automatic so it shifts fine from 1 to 3, but cannot go into 4th gear or over 40 mph and cannot go uphill at all. Engine light started flashing and there have been some other electrical things happening like the dashboard will just go off while driving or the radio will just turn off. I started thinking it was a transmission problem but there has been some electrical weird things going on for a few months now and the engine light always comes on every 4 to 5 months and when I check the code it always points to the O2 sensor which I already replaced so I started ignoring the engine light, but now the electrical stuff is weirding me out and now instead of the engine light just being on, it started flashing so I parked it. A mechanic looked at it and thought the transmission fluid was overfilled. I took it in and had the fluids drained and refilled. I replaced the air filter and spark plugs but still no change, it is still running the same. Please help.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 24-07-2017

Hi Msch, As your vehicle is a relatively late model I think it would be fitted with electronic transmission control modules. As you have lost power to the speedo and other circuits, you may have a problem with the speed and ABS sensors. The signals from those send command signals to the management system and control both vehicle speed and gear changes. Take the vehicle and have a diagnostic scan carried out. I believe the problem to be electronic and nothing to do with how much ATF is in the box. I do believe the electrical problems are related. Regards John
It sounds like you have a ground problem, which may be under the dash in your truck...The gauges going out on you are due to a loose connection of the cluster...If you take the cluster out you will find it has one plug to operate the whole cluster and this sometimes becomes loose...So check this connection and you may find that this may fix all the rest of the wierd things happening with your truck..It is not hard to remove the gauges cluster!
