Having problems with your 2002 Saturn VUE ?
I have just changed my sparkplugs and changed the coolent on my 2002 vue now my service engion light came on the computer said engion over temp my tem gadge is just a little higher than normel. The problem didnot occour until I changed my coolennt. My repair manual said a 50/50 blend was OK. Could this have caused my thermostat to go out?
No, the coolant has nothing to do with the thermostat going out, when they fail they fail. I would hook up the OBD II scanner (go to local Autozone autoparts store and they loan it for free) to find out the exact error code and pinpoint the problem. If you have done that already and it said replace the thermostat, then replace it and replace the thermostat gasket, make sure the area is clean (use some sandpaper to remove old glue and old gasket material and allow to dry before you reinstall the metal piece that covers the thermostat. I have seen many cars run a little bit hotter (Honda and Acura's do it all the time) then normal and it is always the thermostat not opening up correctly when the water heats up inside the radiator and block Your blend of antifreeze is ok, it is just that time to replace it. They are only $10 at your local autoparts store and the gasket is another $3. There should be two bolts you will need to remove after you have removed the upper radiator hose and then you can change it out
