Having problems with your 2002 Dodge Neon ?

I have a 02 neon it was running fine then went to the store, pute it in park for a minute then pute it in reverse, it started hesitating, tried to give it gas and it died. i started it back up and it runs just fine till i pute it in drive and it did the same thing. so now it runs fine in park and neutral, but if i pute it in gear at all it spits, sputters and dies un less i give it gas and get it up to speed, its fine again but once i slow down to stop again it keeps dooing it. whats your though

I think this is a classic example of a faulty air flow meter . These can be rather expensive , so take your car to your garage and have the system scanned - just to be on the safe side .

You could try disconnecting the air flow meter electrical plug and then start your engine , this should improve your symptoms but not completely . Nevertheless this could help you confirm if the air flow meter is faulty or not .
