I just bought a used 1991 Pontiac Grand Am which has a 4 Tech 2.5 liter engine. I took the car to a shop to have the oil changed and was told that there is a "cylinder" or "canister" that holds the oil filter in place. This canister is held on by a bolt with a hex head. On my particular car the bolt's hex head has been rounded so that the mechanic cannot get a grip on the bolt to remove it. He further stated that whomever tried to use enough force to remove the cylinder would break it and th

Can not remove the alternator on my 2001 Santa Fe The main pivot bolt at bottom of alternator seems to be long and can't be pushed back through the hole in alternator base enough to allow the alternator to drop down and be removed. There is a bar that is bolted on the frame underneath the starter on my 93 buick roadmaster and I can't seem to get to the nut of the bolt that holds the bar to the frame. I can turn the bolt head because it's right there but the nut is spinning and I can't get to it because it's in the frame.

You will need to use a wrench and slide into the frame and try to get it on the nut then remove the bolt and do the same to install the bar. if you cant get to nut this way then the only other way is to cut a hole in the frame to get a wrench on the ... Buick Roadmaster

My belt tensioner pulley broke at the bolt that bolts to the bracket. I bought a new one and I was wondering if there was an easier way to replace the tensioner pulley other than removing both the upper alternator bracket and the belt tensioner pulley bracket which is also what holds the lower portion of the alternator. The problem is I don.t have any room able to tighten the assembly nut. Thanks. David. [email protected]

2002 Chevy Impala rear brakes in removing the brake caliper bolt / pins the hex head of the lower bolts on each wheel were rounded off and very tight to remove I purchased new bolts from the local auto parts store and notice that they are different (one has a turned down end with a neoprene sleeve the other is metal one diameter to the end). I am wondering if the bolts had been reversed during a previous install. what is the correct position for these bolts?

The bottom has a bolt head we can see, but the other side of the bolt is behind some brake line brackets. Is there a nut on the back of the bolt, or does it thread into something?

On a lot of models the nut is welded to the arm and does not need to be held. Try turning it and watch the nut. If the bolt comes out it sould go back in the same way. Be careful not to over tighten - if the threads are stripped the nut will have ... 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD
