The starter drive is most likely shot. Depending how good of a mechanic you are, you can replace just the drive. If the starter has a lot of miles on it I would recommend puting a remanufactured starter on the car. When you get the starter off try turning the gear at the end of the starter, you should only be able to turn it one way. If it is real loose and you can turn it both ways it's shot.
