Rear brakes not working have free off piston but out side brake pad not making contact with disc when brake applied

The slider pins are most likely stuck. Take them out and put the good silver anti-sieze on them. You can get it at any part store. You might have to take a drill bit the same size as the pins and clean out the holes. Make sure the pins are easy to put in and slide nice before you put it back together.

There is a knock in the rear brakes which stops when you apply the brakes. I took the passenger side tire off and inspected the brake. The outside pad is loose and the inside pad is so tight against the disc that it is very hard to turn the disc. Can this be adjusted?

It sounds like the slide pin in your brake assembly has jammed - this is a reasonably common problem. The brakes should 'self-adjust' or centre so that there is even braking force from either side. It may be possibly to remove your brake caliper, unj ... 2000 Mazda 626

Front drivers side disc brake on 2001 dodge stratus. put on new rotor and brake pads. Get up to around 5mph it makes a noise, until brakes are hit. accelerate the noise starts again. outer brake pad is loose. What is problem?

Replaced front brake pads and also two studs Drivers side only, on 2001 nissan altima GLE . After driving about 20 to 30 miles the drivers side starts making a noise similar to a smog pump bearing noise . Here's the strange thing , it only does it when you have the car driving straight and accellerating . If you steer the car to the left or right ,take your foot off the gas or apply the brake it goes away . Can you help ?

Well this is tricky. I have no idea what this could be except for the bearings. The reason I suspect this is because turning and braking will change the pressure you put on each wheel, so reducing or increasing pressure on that specific wheel could m ... 2001 Nissan Altima

I have a 04 camry w 127,000 miles on it, 90% of brake pads left on the front, but when I apply the brake it makes a horrible niose like a growl on the right front side, is not very consistant tho, had into shop 3 times, mech. unable to hear noise. Hi I put new brake pads on front disc of my 1997 kia sportage added brake fluid put back together , now when i apply the brakes it is making a screeching noise what could i have done wrong Thanks John

This is a really common issue. If the brake pads you used were the "cheap" ones, then that could be your issue. I have installed cheaper pads with a high metallic content only to have to remove them right away and replace with a better quality pad. ( ... 2002 Kia Sportage

2003 Avalanche--front brakes make a pulsating/grinding sound when applied while on wet pavement. Doesn't stop vehicle very well. Brakes I turned in my car to change my brake pads but, after 2 months it needed to be changed again. This time they said I also need a new brake disc. How is it within 2 months I needed to replace the pads and disc when it took me three years to wear down the original brakes? Now again I need to replace both pads and disc. It also makes a knocking sound when the brakes is not engaged. What causes this? Is it something the mechanic did that's not right.

It sounds like the rotor (brake disk) is warped. That would cause the pads to wear much more quickly because the disk "wobbles".\015\012The warped disk can also cause the noise, depending on how bad the warp is.\015\012When most shops ch ... 2004 Mazda 3

New brakes I now have a clicking sound in the front drivers side wheel when brakes are applied at low speed. I had recently put new pads on the front because the rotor on the drivers side was scorn. 99 Toyota corolla. I just replaced the brakes all the way around a month ago. pads on front, shoes on back. It now makes an awful grinding sound when the brakes are applied and sounds like metal to metal. Pulled off tires again and everything looks good, pads, shoes, rotors, drums. So what would make it sound and feel like that

You'll have to determine which wheel the sound is coming from and check it again. It could be something hitting the rotor or drum other than the shoes and pads. Like a brake spring or guide. You can raise each front wheel one at a time and have ... Cars & Trucks

Question 1: How do i remove the rear rotor on my 1990 chevy Lumina Euro 3.1? I can't just pull it off. Is it just stuck or do i need to remove some kind of nut keeping it on? If so, where is it located? Question 2: On the front brakes, the brake pad that's controlled by the piston hits the rotor causing the rotor to move and make contact with the outter non piston controled brake pad...Does the rear break pads work the same? If not, how do they work?

2002 Chrysler Concorde LX. High pitched noise from brake area. Somtimes occurs when brakes are applied gently. It also happens when the brakes are released. Sometimes it can be heard without the brakes being applied. I think the noise is from the drivers side brake. I have had the pads changed and the rotors turned to see if it would solve the problem. It did not help.

We recently replaced the front brake pads and turned the roters on our 2004 PT Cruiser. However, when applying the brakes on a hard quick stop, it makes a god-awful griding noise. Doesn't do it with a "soft" stop or soft braking, only on hard brakes. Was really bad after a hard rain and we had to make a quick stop. Also, we're hearing a slight high-pitched scraping noise when you start out from a dead stop. It goes away after you reach a higher speed.

I just replaced the front pads on my '98 900S. I also replaced the retaining springs as I lost while doing the job. I took the car for a test drive and know there is a vibration/ severe knocking/clanging from the passenger side that goes away when I apply the brakes. I removed and reinserted the guide pins, along with removing and replacing the reatining spring. Another weird thing that happened, was the brake pedal stuck on the floor once after about the 3rd time applying brakes.

My front disc brakes vibrate very bad when braking, also extreme heat on rotor area. rotors do not look warped and caliper piston goes in and out (no signs of leakage) i think the problem is on drivers side & i noticed the brake pads are worn unevenly (at an angle) on drivers side only. 1995 olds cutlass ciera.

2006 freestyle was just inspected by a ford dealer 4 days ago. according to the technician, pads and rotors are good. The car vibrates alot when brakes are applied for an average stop. I can feel the vibrations in the steering wheel that actually moves side to side while average braking. During hard braking the car stops properly without vibration? What could cause this problem?
