Having problems with your 2001 Hyundai Elantra ?

Elantra will not start-tried jumpers- works 1 time only afterward

\015 I have a Hyundai Elantra 2001 GLS that will not start. The car makes a shudder-type sound, and the rado and air will come on slightly, but the car doesn't even begin to start. I had the car jumped several times and I get it to start that way, and I'm even able to drive it, but when I turn it off, and attempt to restart it later, I have the same issue. I had the car being "jumped" for like an hour, and same problem. I don't know if it's the alternator, or the battery, but whatever it is, I have a feeling it has something to do with my alarm system. The 12V battery I need to unlock the car is dead, so whenever I open the car door the alarm goes ofgf and I have to do the manual override. I am so stressed out and don't know how to resolve at this point.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 18-12-2017

Answers :

Take it to a garage and have them check the starter motor, alternator and battery. This problem sounds like it could be a seized starter motor but it could be a dead battery.
The alarm will keep you from starting the car. Take off the negative cable for a few minutes to reset the computer. Reconnect and put your key in the ignition, you'll notice the alarm activates and thats ok. Turn the to the "on" position, not the start or "run" spot but the "On" right before it (you know the spot that turns on your radio but not the car, thats it). Leave the key in the "On" spot for 1 minute, usually 2 alarm cycles. After the alarm has cycled twice then remove your key and the alarm is reset and if thats the problem your car should start. This method will also sync up your remote if you have changed the remote battery.
