Having problems with your 2000 Mitsubishi Galant ?

Turns over but wont start

\015 Its getting spark and air. so now im suspecting the fuel pump. is there\015\012any sure way to test the fuel pump? we turned the key and i put my ear\015\012to the fuel tank and didnt hear anything. but i dont want to pull the\015\012pump if i dont need to. we tried starting fluid and it ran for about 1\015\012second, but it sounded really rough, and immediately died. it looks\015\012kinda dirty behind the choke plate. we already changed the spark plugs and checked for spark. we also checked the timing belt\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 16-10-2017

Answers :

Yes.. connect a fuel pump pressure gauge to the fuel rail - turn the ign key to 'start' and watch the fuel pressure gauge.. if NO pressure.. you found the problem... .could be wiring or the pump itself.
If you don't hear it then it is probably not working.  One way you can check is to take a fuel line apart and see if fuel comes out when you turn the key.  The best place to do that is at the fuel filter.  Just make sure you have a small cup to catch the fuel if it comes out.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
