Oil Consumption I just had and oil change, tranny fluid change and new valve cover gaskets on my van done. Last summer, I did the oil change and tranny fluid change myself, replacing both the oil pan, and tranny pan gaskets. I am very picky about doing things right the first time when it come to the maintenanc of my vehicles. If I have no leaks, on the valve cover gaskets, or the oil pan, would it be safe to assume that the rings on the pistons are a bit worn out, therefore I would be burning oi

I pulled a spark plug to change plugs and the spark plug wire boot was all wet from oil. The other three plugs were fine. The rest of the engine looked fine apart from the regular dirty engine look. No oil leaks elsewhere. What can be done? I am thinking i need to replace the valve cover gasket along with the valve gasket(?), unless there are small gaskets by the spark plug. But do i need to remove the cover to fix it?

Yes you need to remove the valve cover to repair it, the new valve cover gasket set will come with the spark plug hole tube seal's also. ... 1996 Saturn SL

1990 Honda Civic Hatchback, 1.5 EFI, runs great but smokes like a chimney. Its burning oil but doesn't leak. Changed head gasket, but no dice, didn't solve the smoke. After changing head gasket I noticed a considerable amount of oil in air intake tube between air filter and throttle body. Trying to figure out why oil is being (blown, or sucked) into intake. Compression is 152, 145, 140, 150. Bad PCV valve? = To much pressure in crank case causing oil to blow into intake tubing from valve cover?

Did you put Valve seals in the head???Other than that the PCV is a good start...But it sounds like the oil rings on the pistons to me. ... 1990 Honda Civic

I have a 95 buick regal 3.8L. I changed the valve cover gaskets and after I was done the car idles rough. I did a vacuum test on it and it indicates that its a worn valve guide. Is it possible that I got a some dirt in the cylinder head when i was changing that gasket? Would that cause problems like this?

When you say a vacuum test indicated a worn valve guide, was there a slight rapid vacuum gage needle fluctuation at idle?? a worn valve guide as a rule only causes oil consumption,( not a rough idle), and on only one cylinde ... Buick Regal
