Having problems with your 1998 Volkswagen Golf ?

MISFIRING I HAVE A 98 VW GOLF 1400cc. THE CAR WILL MISFIRE MOST OF THE TIME,NOT ON EXCELLERATION OR HIGH SPEEDS,BT MOSTLY IN TRAFFIC AND GOING SLOW. WHEN YO ARE IN A TRAFFIC JAM.IT FEELS LIKE ITS.KANGAROO JUMPING. I,V REPLACED THE, PLUGS, LEADS, SECOND HAND COIL, NEW AIR FILTER, PETROL FILTER AND HAVE HAD A FAULT DIAGNOSTICS PUT ON IT. I,M STILL.STUCK ON WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE. FEEL FREE TO ADVISE.THANKS DAVE.

I had the same problem on a 1.6 1998 Mk 4 golf and replaced the O2 sensor approx £50. It solved the problem. Irish Paddy

  • Emission control System malfunctioning

  • Timing belt installed wrong or incorrectly tensioned

  • Malfunction in secondary ignition system ( check cap, rotor - pull and reseat)

  • Injector problems
  • \015\012
  • Vacuum leaks - check hoses, listen for hissing
