With the engine cold remove the radiator cap, then put it back on (just to make sure there is no pressure in the system) start the engine and let it run for about 30 seconds. Go back and take off the radiator cap. If there is air escaping you know there is a head gasket leak, it shouldn't build pressure that fast, and it could be causing the overheating by allowing air to be forced into the cooling system
Well could be a thermostat or water pump or is it smoking out the tailpipe? if it is then you have a blown headgasket. the cooling ystem itself could be clogged and needs to be flushed. here are a number of reasons and i hope they help
