Having problems with your 1996 Pontiac Sunfire ?

Drivebelt Yes thanks the diagram confirmed routing of belt, although once I got it started it began doing the same thing as before, within 2-3mins. of it running the belt starts to slide off the tensioner pulley. I shut it off before it does, whether it will or not I don't know but the belt I had on before was missing 1 rib (inside closest to pulley) all the way around, for some reason the ribs or ridges are not lining up and laying right therefore the belt moves sideways.Replaced tension pulley

Answers :

Make sure you have some good lighting, so you can see all of your pulleys at the same time from the side. See if they are all inline. Some of the Sunfire tension pulleys needed a spacer to line them up correctly. If they are all in line, check each of your pulleys to see if any of them have been worn down on one edge.
