Having problems with your 1996 GMC Jimmy ?

1996 jimmy continually replace distributer cap and rotor

\015 Engine constantly idols rough, Eventually will not start, hot or cold. I constantly have to replace lifetime distribution caps and rotor, they only last about 6 months, What is wrong?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 11-12-2017

The symptoms sound like you actual distributor is bad. It may have a bad or worn bearing, or possibly a cracked or broken shaft. I would replace the distributor itself.
Look into the throttle body intake.
\015\012remove the tubing to the throttle body at there at the butterfly plate.
\015\012thats the plate that opens and close with the gas pedal.
\015\012look there and see if there is a lot of black carbon buildup right at the bottom of the throttle plate.use a good brand carb cleaner and spray it in there a little bit. use a very clean rag and wip it clean.
\015\012everything in there should be very nive and clean.the carbon will tend to buildup at the idle position and cause the engine to die at an idle and run rough.make sure everything is done nice and clean and do not get any any any trash in the tbi intake system.
\015\012using super unleaded will prevent this from being a problem again ever.
