Recommended air pressure Ford Explorer

\015 What is the correct pressure now for my 1996 Explorer? And does the brand of tire used make a difference?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 18-09-2017

I've had two 4WD explorers over the past 12 years. I've always kept the tires near the maximum inflation of 44 PSI - usually between 40-42 PSI. I know Ford recommends less on the door sticker, but my tires always wore too fast on the edges at the recommended pressures. It makes for a harsher ride, but it has been a good trade off for me. The only thing I know about brand of tires is you should use a quality brand of all-terrain design. I've used Uniroyal, Michelin and now Firestone Destination AT with good results. The way explorers cup tires, I don't worry too much about mileage as you're lucky to get 40K before you can't stand them anyway. Good luck. JW
