Having problems with your 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse ?

My car won't turn over , every time I turn the key there is a single clicking noise behind the radio. I checked the starter, battery, battery cables, fuses, and fusable connection. Everything was fine. the theft lock light is on and I don't know how to turn it off, What is causing the problem and if it's the theft lock how do I turn it off? oh it's a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse gst standard

Hi,

Might not be the theft lock, otherwise the alarm would have been activated (horn goes off / the lights flash). Based on your description, the problem would be that it will not crank and therefore would be two (2) possibilities:

1. Gear engage start inhibitor switch, that would be the transmission sensor telling the car not to start if it is not in Park or Neutral. Try shifting back and forth between Park and Neutral and then start the car. This is of course if your car has an automatic transmission and not a manual/conventional one. There was a Technical Service Bulletin to this effect (TSB No: TSB9723006 NHTSA ID: 35 , June 01, 1997);

2. Starter relay - that would be what you are hearing. Should be in the engine bay near the hydrovac (Master brake cylinder booster) attached to the firewall and looks like two rectangular blocks.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
