With the engine running check the transmission fluid level, color and feel it for grit. If the color is other than translucent pink, low level or grit in the fluid may mean many several things. The dark colors, brown or black will mean a transmission overhaul is in order AAMCO is as good as any other place to have this done. If the level is low and the color is fine, simply add more fluid, with the engine running. Making sure to not overfill it check the dipstick several times to ensure the level is good. If there is grit in the fluid you have one or both of these problems: The gears are stripped and ground down, expensive to rebuild or replace the transmission. It's also possible the fluid just needs to be replaced. AAMCO can do this or you can have Jiffy-Lube do it (it's like a transfusion). The transmission is a tricky piece of equipment and has many parts that require tolerances to be exact. If you're not sure how to do the in depth work on it, take it to a professional. It will save you money and your sanity in the long run. Good luck
