I have replaced the engine top of my toyota hilux KZTE 2003 model, due to cracks in the engine top. I did not align all the timing marks on the engine before removing the timing belt. I did not adjust or remove any part of the timing gear on the engine block. I tried to set the cam and crank position to TDC but if go according to the workshop manual, the timing mark on the camshaft is 180deg shifted from the timing mark on the engine.SEE page 2D-6 of workshop manual for hilux models Oct1997 thro

Ive been trying to set the timing on a 95' volvo 850. first replaced water pump 2 days before. finances kept me from replaceing any addition componants at that time. now im paying for it. the belt broke. is it possible to break the syncronization of the cams and the crank shaft. since the belt broke i didnt have the chance to set the marks according to the book. i have hand cranked both of the cams and crank shaft counter clockwise and clockwise to put everything on its mark. with the "clockwise

Water pump I am going to replace the water pump and the manual calls for top dead center cyl 1. Why? I know I am going to be removing the timing belt but as long as it is marked - why does it matter where the pistons are. Also I #1 plug seems to be behind the gen. mount. Spark plug hard to get any trick? Also how in the world am I going to tell TDC with this set up. I am assuming that piston 1 is top left - how I'm going to determine TDC I don't know at least the way the book explains it - look

I know just enough about car mechanics to be dangerous. I replaced the water pump and put the timing belt back on just the way it came off and it must have slippied a tooth. I need to know how to reset all the timing marks. 1 of the manuals send that when you release the pin holding the belt tensioner, the holes should still line up. My plunger moves upwards about about 1/4 inch, does that mean it needs replacing. As far as aligning the timing marksI know it all starts with find the TDC but how

I replaced my timing belt and after replacing it the engine missed a little on idle, but ran beautiful at 60-75 mph. I took it into a shop and was told I was off one tooth. I've now again removed the belt and somehow the camshaft jumped. I put the arrows back to linement as well as the crankshaft. but the car wont start. when I looked at the cams the intake has indented on the spocket "front and with a arrow pointing up" with the timing mark on the 9'oclock position. on the exhuast it also has t

Hi I have Peugeot 307 SW 2.0 litre diesel (2003), engine - DW10ATED. Time has come to replace a timing belt. I would like to do it myself. Read through many forums but no exact work instructions could find. Read through Haynes manual but if I follow it, I would have to take half of my car apart just to replace a cam belt (i.e. remove whole exhaust system as if it is not removed, the front pipe flexible section will be damaged when the right-hand engine mounting is detached). I am in the middle of replacing the timing belt on a 05 honda odyssey touring, before removing the old belt, the manual is saying to turn the crankshaft pulley to its white mark [which i can see] lines up with the pointer [B] on the engine block [ which i can also see], the manual also says to set the No. 1 piston at top dead center TDC by aligning the pointer on the front cover with the No.1 piston on the front camshaft pulley, the problem is as of now with the old belt still in place, when i t

I just replaced the timing belt on my 2003 lexus rx300 3.0 liter engine with vvt and dohc. i've had no problems with the car ever. i know the right cam sprocket moved slightly while installing the timing belt but i moved it back (as close as i could). the timing marks on the right sprocket are hard to align because they are hard to see and the manual i'm using isn't making sense to an aircraft mechanic like me. the engine seems to run ok, but is probably hard to tell with such a small misadjustm

Replaced timing belt on a 97 contour. i know that the cams are lined up (kind of a full proof methed that ford used). the second notch on crank pulley lined up with the oil pan marking (with the side of the v that is closest to fire wall) this looked to be TDC center, by settiing and watching a screw driver on the piston. now with timing light, #1 plug apears to fire when second notch on crank pully is just about to reach the front side of the v oil pan mark. car will not fire on its own or wit

Im replacing the timing belt on my 1999 caravan 3.0 liter. i found tdc on the #1 cyl, assuming its the closest on the right of the engine as you look at it with the main shaft facing you. i then lined the marks on the cam sprockets to the notches provided in the casting on the left and the stamped notch on the right. when i turn the engine over, it acts as if i havent even put the timing belt on (meaning the starter turns fast with no sign of spark)

#1 cylinder is to the left as you look at the belt. Either way, I recommend you use the timing mark on the crankshaft, which is more accurate way to get TDC (see diagram below). The key to getting timing belt right is to first get all the sprockets ... Dodge Caravan

I have replaced the timing belt on my 1999 mazda protege 1.6 . My Hayes repair manual was vague about the timing. I asked a tech on this site for help and was told ''look at the camshaft gears and the back gear has an ''I'' on it and the front one has an ''E'' on it. when those are facing straight up look at the closest point in between the cam gears and you will see two sets of notches and the top set at the closest points of the two cam gears will face each other the left cam at 3 o;clock and
