Hey, im sorry this is a bit later on and you may yourself discovered the problem.. however, I have had this same issue before and there is a small black wire coming down from the solenoid to the starter, its located right on top of this tiny starter (possibly the relay), its sitting right on the transmission box right in front of the car, just go under the front of it, right in the middle, just after the radiator.
there it should be sitting slightly to the left with a big silver wire and nut running to it, check that this bolt and wire are connected snug and tight.
there is another wire, much smaller, on the top part of the starter (relay??? It's pretty small looking for a starter on my 4 cylinder), it has a blue clasp that just slips on and off of it easily, take a pair of pliers and give it a slightly firm squeeze like giving it a firm handshake, just don't shake it.
I am not sure where this wire runs to, I am thinking it is connected somehow to the alternator, as this seems to wiggle free and when I reconnect it and do this same method, it starts, with hesitation as I try to start it a few times, this is because the wire is very touchy on my tempo and i'm thinking replacing the wire and/or starter perhaps. sigh, this car has been a lot of work the last year that I have owned it. It also does not help that my battery dies and i can't be sure if its the battery or my chargers fault.. just don't buy cheap generic brands, in this market and the must need use of a vehicle, I would suggest paying for the brands more popular as they seem to work much better and as in the technology field, you get what you pay for.
I am no mechanic, but I've been playing one lately, I am a computer programmer and engineer.
Hi. You may want to check the ignition system of the car. Heres the procedure on how to check the ignition system. Turn on the headlight of the car then turn the key to start position. Headlight or dash lights should go dim. If headlights/dash light dont go din then this is an ignition problem.
