Having problems with your 1994 Ford Ranger Supercab ?

My '94 Ranger (166K miles) leaks transmission fluid but only seems to in hot weather and stop and go traffic. I drove 200 highway miles last weekend in 80 degree weather with no fluid losses. What gives?

Answers :

Your transmission is either overfilled or cooler sounds like it is plugged and not letting your fluid cool properly causing it to foam and run out the vent. I would recommend first checking your fluid with the engine running and in park to insure proper levels then if that looks good pulling the transmission lines from the radiator and blowing air through it to clear any trash that may of accumulated. You can even purchase an external cooler to help cool your fluid just be sure that when you install it to make sure you install it after the radiator or the side that your fluid returns back to the tranny and not before the radiator.
