Having problems with your 1994 Chevrolet C1500 ?

I have a 1994 Chevy Z71. It runs great, until it gets warm. Then it shifts itself down from Drive to 2nd gear and wont allow me to shift it back to drive until I stop and turn the engine off for about 10 seconds. Then it is ok for a little longer. We replaced the speed sensor, and the transmission shop couldnt figure anything out. I dont want to buy a new transmission, but I dont know what to do next.

The most common problem on these transmissions is a bad ground on the shift solenoids. I am very surprised the transmission shop didn't notify you of this. Unless they just wanted to sell you a new transmission.
If the speed sensor is replaced then it means that the car is giving right signals for gear shift. But the problem still exists which means the problem is bit deeper. The problem is within TCM and Valve Body.\015\012The valve has the shift solenoid which may be faulty and stuck up so needs to be checked and replaced first.\015\012In most of the cases where speed sensor leaves back the problem then replacing the solenoid solves the major issues.\015\012Only if the problem still exists then we think off replacing the transmission as last option.\015\012
